Our Mission

The Kennedy Shelter Allies (KSA) advocate for a modern facility to support individuals experiencing homelessness. KSA knows that the next generation of homeless services must include wrap-around supports, and a location that promotes long-term solutions and opportunities to find homes. The Kennedy Shelter Allies are a coalition of neighbors, places of worship, and civic organizations who want a new emergency shelter in the South County area, as quickly as possible: Kennedy Shelter 2.0.

The Mount Vernon District has a history of lifting people up: that is who we are.

Fifty years ago, the Eleanor U Kennedy emergency shelter was founded by Ventures in Community, United Community Ministry and Fairfax County, to give un-housed people safety and services and shelter. Providing these are the first steps to permanent housing opportunities.

In 2016, a bond was passed to fund a new and modern shelter: Kennedy Shelter 2.0!
